How to install ionCube loader on Ubuntu

ionCube is a Zend-Engine extension to encode PHP files. To install it on Ubuntu first download the software from and extract it to /usr/local. For the 64 bit version:

cd /usr/local
sudo wget
sudo tar xzf ioncube_loaders_lin_x86-64.tar.gz

Then make sure the extension is loaded by PHP:

echo "zend_extension=/usr/local/ioncube/" | sudo tee /etc/php5/conf.d/ioncube.ini

Restart Apache:

sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart

That’s it! To test if ionCube loader is installed you can check the output of phpinfo(); it should contain the line ionCube Loader under Additional Modules. You can also copy the file /usr/local/ioncube/loader-wizard.php to your public web directory and run it via your web browser. It will run some additional tests and tell you if there are still any problems.
