Here an example on how to create an archive of a BackupPC backup.

First connect to your BackupPC server via SSH and switch to the BackupPC user, e.g. with

su backuppc -

Then execute the BackupPC_tarCreate script and specify the name of the backup (replace in the command below)

/usr/share/backuppc/bin/BackupPC_tarCreate -h -n -1 -s / / > archive.tar

This will create a file called archive.tar with the latest backup of the host.

If you want to compress your backups you can also use the command BackupPC_zipCreate instead.

/usr/share/backuppc/bin/BackupPC_zipCreate -h -n -1 -c 3 -s / / > archive.zip

This will create a zip file called archive.zip. With the compression level 3 (-c 3) it will take about the same time as creating the tar file but the resulting file will be smaller.
